Your Hanford City Council took the following actions at last night’s council meeting.

Study Session:

1. Received presentation from staff regarding impacts of homelessness in the City of Hanford, the City’s current resources and efforts, and possible future actions to address issue

Highlights included:

-Majority of homeless population from Hanford/Kings County

1,142 calls for police service for homeless issues so far in 2022 (1,139 total calls in 2021)

-Areas of concern include 7th Street (between Douty & Redington), old courthouse and Civic Park (restrooms, arbor area)

-City resources include HART team, Park Resource Officer and Hanford Fire Department

-Low-barrier navigation center is one way to address homelessness

Council directed staff to explore potential funding sources for low-barrier center in Hanford (Provided funding is available, council would consider low-barrier center)

2. Received update on Civic Auditorium renovations from Parks and Community Services staff

-Projects completed: Roof replacement, mechanical/HVAC replacement

-Projects remaining: Sewer main replacement, acoustic ceiling, floor replacement, interior painting

-Council directed staff to purchase hardwood floor, SonaSpray product for ceiling

Regular Session: 

1. Hanford Fire Chief Steve Pendergrass presented Fire Prevention Week proclamation (October 9-15, 2022)

2. Approved contract with Fresno Fence Connection for skate park fence, additional security measures

3. Approved contract amendment with Avenu – MuniServices LLC, to provide auditing services of existing retail cannabis businesses every 2-3 years

4. Council directed staff to bring back future agenda items related to following topics:

-Fees for nonprofit use of Civic Auditorium

-Subcommittee for possible partnership between City and Hanford Chamber of Commerce

5. City Manager provided update on lighting replacements at Bob Hill Youth Complex
