Richard Gonzales Samayoa, who had been on California’s death row since 1988, was found unresponsive early this morning in his cell in the infirmary at San Quentin State Prison and pronounced deceased at 1:13 a.m.

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are searching for Raul Mejia, an offender who walked away from Delta Conservation Camp in Solano County on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

As outlined in the 2022-23 budget with an eye toward fiscal responsibility, CDCR is moving forward with closing one prison and ceasing operation of another leased facility as a state prison, and will deactivate some facilities within six prisons.
