Sometimes situations in life are honestly difficult to put into words. 30 year old Riverside Deputy Sheriff Darnell Calhoun was gunned down yesterday after responding to a domestic violence and a child custody matter. A second Deputy found Deputy Calhoun on the ground with gunshot wounds. The second Deputy exchanged gun fire with the suspect, shooting him. The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital.
Deputy Calhoun was doing what those of us in law enforcement do everyday. He responded to a call for service with the hopes of resolving the situation and keeping everyone safe. He was killed serving his community.
Deputy Calhoun is the second Riverside Deputy to be shot and killed in the past two weeks. Deputy Isaiah Cordero was killed on December 29 in the line of duty.
Deputy Calhoun leaves behind his wife who is pregnant with their first child.
We cannot imagine how difficult this is for her, his family and the Riverside Sheriffs Office. We lift them up in prayer and ask the good Lord to work in this tragic situation.
