City of Visalia issued the following announcement on Dec. 18
Just before 9 a.m. yesterday, Thursday, December 17th, the Visalia Fire Department dispatched a first alarm fire response to S. Garden Street for a report of a residential structure fire.
"This fire was dispatched just after another first alarm fire response was responding to the smell of gas inside of a structure," shared Battalion Chief Darrin Hughes, Visalia Fire Department. "The first fire unit on scene reported no smoke showing from the exterior of the residence, but upon further investigation smoke was seen banking down in the kitchen area on the interior."
The first fire crew quickly attacked the fire located inside of an oven and then checked the cabinets for any fire extension.
"All of the occupants were outside of the residence prior to the arrival of the first fire unit. Other fire units on scene checked the attic space for any fire extension and found none," added Hughes.
Damage to the house was estimated at $2,000 due to smoke, with approximately $1,100 damage to the stove/oven unit that the fire was located in.
The cause of the fire was determined to be combustibles that were left inside of the oven as it was being pre-heated. There were no injuries sustained to civilians or fire personnel.
