Five of six singles matches went to the Panthers as the Chapman University women's tennis team defeated visiting Colby 6-3 on Monday. Chapman overcame an early doubles deficit to improve to 6-4 on the year.
Colby grabbed the early advantage with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. Alexis Golin and Lucy Erickson gained one point for Chapman with an 8-4 win in the No. 2 match.
Chapman quickly gained an advantage and clinched the match with four straight set wins. Golin won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3 and Erickson took the No. 5 match 6-4, 6-1. Goldie La was a 6-4, 6-4 winner in the No. 2 match and Olivia Desso grabbed the 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
Colby's Carly Lentz won the No. 1 match but Katherine Monroy finished off the victory with a comeback win at No .6 – 1-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8).
The win wraps up Chapman's non-conference dual schedule. The Panthers are back on the court for their first road match on Apr. 1 at Redlands.
