Julia Strand eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark in women's basketball's come-from-behind 55-52 victory over the Whitworth Pirates on Sunday, Dec. 18.

With :31 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Strand got the ball at the block and hit the defender with a smooth turn-around jumper to net her 14th point of the game and 1,001st of her career. The bucket cut the Chapman deficit to just five heading into the fourth quarter, 44-39.

The Panthers trailed by 13 at one point in the third, but took control of the game in the fourth quarter. After a quick Pirate three, Chapman answered with eight straight points, four from Sammie Inana to take a 49-47 lead with 4:25 left.

The following three minutes saw the teams trade buckets and four lead changes, the final lead change, and the one that held, came after Katie Kubo drew a shooting foul to put her at the line. Kubo knocked down both free throws to take a 53-52 lead.

Strand fittingly iced the game with :15 seconds remaining, picking up a loose ball near the basket and draining a layup to score her 20th and final point on the night.

Strand and Kubo were the only Panthers to finish in double figures, but Chapman shined on defense forcing 25 turnovers and grabbing 14 steals. Inana did a little bit of everything, grabbing three of those steals, adding five assists, six boards, and four points.
