Congressmen David Valadao and Adam Gray have introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at improving healthcare access in rural communities. The legislation, known as the Telehealth Network and Telehealth Resource Centers Grant Program Reauthorization Act, seeks to extend funding for telehealth initiatives through Fiscal Year 2030.
“In the Central Valley and rural communities across the country, telehealth isn’t just a convenience—it’s a lifeline,” Congressman Valadao stated. He emphasized the challenges faced by families in these areas due to limited medical resources. “This bipartisan bill gives Valley families the flexibility and tools required to better connect with providers, and I’m proud to join Congressman Gray in strengthening rural healthcare for the long haul.”
Congressman Gray highlighted similar concerns regarding healthcare access. “In rural areas like the Central Valley, access to telehealth may be the only way folks can see a medical provider,” he said. With significant physician shortages, he stressed the importance of making care more accessible. “This bipartisan, commonsense bill to reauthorize telehealth network and resource grants will allow families to access care no matter where they live.”
The Public Health Service Act (PHSA), originally enacted in 1944, has been pivotal in addressing healthcare needs across America, particularly in underserved regions. It supports community health centers and workforce development programs while expanding telehealth services. The reauthorization of telehealth grant programs is intended to continue supporting these efforts by recruiting health professionals to rural areas and enhancing local healthcare facilities.
