WASHINGTON – Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-22) and his colleagues have raised concerns over the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) contracting practices, specifically regarding the relationship with consulting firm McKinsey & Company and its ties to opioid manufacturers. In a letter to Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dennis McDonough, the lawmakers highlighted the potential conflicts of interest that could have impacted the medical treatments of American veterans.

The lawmakers expressed their worry that McKinsey's consulting services to the VA were influenced by their relationships with opioid manufacturers, potentially putting veterans at risk. They urged the VA to thoroughly review past and current contracts with McKinsey to assess any conflicts of interest and investigate the impact of these relationships on VA decisions.

Furthermore, the letter outlined four actions for the VA to take, including evaluating procedures for assessing conflicts of interest, reviewing past initiatives involving McKinsey, and providing transparency on how potential conflicts of interest with contractors are managed.

In their communication to Secretary McDonough, the lawmakers emphasized the need for accountability and safeguards to prevent conflicts of interest that could jeopardize the well-being of veterans. They called for a prompt response from the VA to address these concerns and protect the interests of American veterans.
