Today, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-22), a member of the House Budget Committee, introduced the CBO Scheduling Reform Act. The legislation aims to improve transparency in the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) report release schedule. CBO reports are often used by members of Congress and their staff to inform decisions on how legislation impacts the federal budget and deficit.

“This commonsense bill improves the way lawmakers and the public receive information about the budget, annual federal spending, and the deficit,” said Congressman Valadao. “I’m proud to introduce this legislation to reform the CBO’s reporting process and increase transparency.”

The CBO Scheduling Reform Act would require CBO to publish a formalized schedule of major recurring reports on its website no later than December 31 of the current calendar year; reports include, but are not limited to:

- The baseline and subsequent updates;

- The biennial report on options to reduce the deficit;

- The annual report on fiscal year accuracy; and

- The report on unauthorized appropriations.
